Software Engineer (Java/Scala)

We are an engineering and product-focused company. Our engineers take a leading role in crafting, architecting, building, and testing our product. Engineers at Splunk have a wide impact, from developing new capabilities like federated search and analytics to working with customers to see their work be used to tackle real-world problems.

You will be a part of Splunk’s Lakehouse team and work with other team members to deliver new capabilities to our data platform, extending Splunk’s capability to search and analyze data wherever it resides.

In this role, you will:

  • Extend the Splunk platform to query new data lakes and provide further customer insights from their data
  • Write production-quality, high-performance distributed systems code
  • Build, test, operate and maintain customer-critical query functionality
  • Develop data platform applications and their service layer in cloud environments
  • Empower your ideas by proof-of-concept prototypes
  • Collaborate with engineers in the team to deliver efficient data processing capabilities
  • Innovate and contribute to the product roadmap
  • Be informed and creative – know about meaningful problems, devise new solutions

Ideal Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in software development with a focus on backend systems
  • Strong Java, Scala or C++ skills with distributed systems design and knowledge of OO and functional programming practices
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and IaC (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and container orchestration platforms
  • Passion for solving hard problems and exploring new technologies
  • Excellent team player with good communication and documentation skills
  • Experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, or similar high volume data technologies is a strong plus

Education

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, a related STEM field, or equivalent experience.
