Role

Splunk SOAR is the only purpose-built Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response platform, and the first to offer an open community for sharing Playbooks and Apps. It empowers security teams to act smarter, faster, and at scale.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the SOAR team, you’ll help solve some of today’s most pressing security challenges - automating incident response actions triggered by powerful analysis of petabytes of real-world customer data. Your work will have a tangible impact on how global security teams detect, respond to, and mitigate threats in real time.
We’re looking for engineers who thrive on autonomy and responsibility. In this role, you’ll be expected to drive forward solutions, with or without detailed direction from the product team. You’ll take ownership of translating product concepts into working functionality, leading the full development lifecycle from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support.
As a senior engineer, you’ll recognize when a comment in a ticket is enough, and when a 15-minute multi-functional call will save days of back-and-forth. You’ll help shape our roadmap, participate in architectural discussions, and bring creativity to solving sophisticated challenges with thoughtful, maintainable engineering. You’ll also support a culture of learning and growth by mentoring teammates, sharing feedback, and encouraging innovation.
Furthermore, you’ll collaborate with engineers, product managers, and partners across time zones, contributing across multiple layers of the SOAR product and broader Splunk ecosystem, wherever your expertise brings the most value.
We're actively exploring how to integrate AI capabilities to make the platform even more effective and accessible, enabling users to streamline their operations, gain deeper insights, and act with greater precision.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new product features, clarify and improve designs, and help put together a plan for how to make it happen (using Scrum).
  • Build deep knowledge of product architecture, usage patterns, and real-world deployment scenarios to provide guidance that drives customer value.
  • Take ownership of major product components and features, from technical design, through implementation and deployment, to operational support.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams across Poland and the US to proactively identify and resolve technical problems, from root cause analysis to resolution - with a strong focus on debugging and long-term stability.
  • Lead or contribute to technical design sessions, architecture discussions, and code reviews, helping shape the direction of the product.
  • Actively contribute to engineering standards and team culture by leading through example and promoting open, constructive feedback.
  • Promote the culture of continuous learning by mentoring other engineers, offering feedback, and sharing your knowledge through documentation, workshops, and informal conversations.
  • Advocate for CI/CD, test automation, and observability best practices to help the team deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions.
  • Participate in customer and partner engagements, helping to clarify issues, suggest improvements, and drive resolution.
  • Take part in the on-call rotation after onboarding (up to 20% of time), ensuring stability and responsiveness of the platform.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in backend development.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and designing RESTful web services.
  • Solid experience working in Linux environments (topics like system architecture, performance tuning, networking, and resource isolation e.g., cgroups, namespaces, are nothing new to you).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud deployments, particularly AWS, with a focus on scalability, security, and multi-tenant architecture design.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining cloud-native applications, with expertise in deployment strategies and observability/monitoring tooling in cloud environments.
  • Proficient in working with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitLab CI/CD.
  • Experience using infrastructure automation tools, especially Puppet.
  • Solid knowledge of virtualization technologies and practical experience managing and deploying Virtual Machines (VMs).
  • Familiarity with backend application development frameworks such as Django.
  • Experience with project and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Excellent collaboration, documentation, and presentation skills (we work closely with colleagues across the US West Coast, and we enjoy sharing our ideas through interactive workshops and technical discussions).
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Bonus Skills

  • Working knowledge of web development (e.g., HTML5/CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, React.js).
  • Familiarity with security and networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of using Splunk or Splunk integration.
  • Experience with SaaS product development (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Experience with security infrastructure equipment or software, SIEM, SOAR, etc.
  • Experience working on open-source or development-in-the-open projects.
  • Knowledge of security practices such as IAM, secure API design, encryption, and infrastructure hardening.
