Software Engineer, Structured Storage (C++/Golang) (North Carolina)

Role Summary

The Structured Store Team is part of Splunk Data Platform foundations organization, responsible for building and maintaining critical data storage infrastructure components and services that powers core workflows and applications. We also help to define the platform future by establishing the architecture, design patterns for common storage components that set the standard for how Splunk is scaled, optimized, and extended. Our tech stack includes Golang, C++, PostgreSQL, Terraform, and Kubernetes, and is constantly evolving. We operate both in on-premise environments, and major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and GCP

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Design, build and maintain robust, fault-tolerant distributed systems in a multi-process environment with built-in observability capabilities.
  • Design, build and maintain common frameworks and APIs for platform storage services, used by a variety of core applications and use cases.
  • Participate in the development of project timelines, implementation design specifications, system flow diagrams, documentation, testing and ongoing support of systems.
  • Participate in regular code and implementation design reviews.
  • Drive end to end delivery including owning the Quality aspects.
  • Demonstrate operational excellence by participating in rotating on-call duties to diagnose and solve customer issues, performing root cause analysis, setup and tune monitoring systems.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related experience with a technical Bachelor’s or Master’s degree; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience developing and debugging software with Golang, C++ or other object-oriented programming languages, with the ability and interest to quickly learn new languages
  • Excellent problem-solving, triaging, and debugging skills in distributed systems.
  • Experience with SQL (preferably PostgreSQL) or NoSQL databases , with knowledge of scalability, performance tuning to handle production databases clusters at scale.
  • Experience crafting and building scalable software, with experience in enterprise software or cloud environments such as AWS.
  • Experience with test-driven development, writing various levels of automated tests, such as unit tests, functional tests, integration tests, system tests, or performance/load tests.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written, and working with multi-functional teams.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Troubleshooting knowledge of Linux OS and / or Windows from user and/or admin perspective.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and related tooling.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP and Azure, and cloud database and storage services such as AWS Aurora, RDS, S3.

Base Pay Range

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area

Base Pay Range: $146,400.00 - 201,300.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts

Base Pay Range: $131,760.00 - 181,170.00 per year

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.

Base Pay Range: $117,120.00 - 161,040.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
