Cisco Announces Splunk and Australian Signals Directorate Joining Forces to Strengthen Australia’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Sharing

Splunk doubles down on public sector commitment with CTIS integration and new IRAP assessment to protect Australia’s digital economy and future

SYDNEY – September 25, 2025 – Today Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking and security, announced that Splunk has partnered with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) to deliver a new plug-in that integrates Splunk Enterprise Security with ASD’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Sharing (CTIS) platform. This integration allows Splunk customers who are also ASD CTIS community partners to share and receive cyber threat intelligence at the speed and scale needed to defend against today’s increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

CTIS, mandatory for Australian federal government agencies from July 2024, is a two-way sharing platform that enables government and industry partners to receive and share information about malicious cyber activity at machine speed. With the new Splunk plug-in, public sector customers can meet this requirement while leveraging its intelligence to strengthen detection and accelerate incident response. Splunk is the second company to launch this CTIS integration in partnership with ASD.

“Recent research shows only 3% of Australian organisations have reached the mature level of readiness to withstand today’s cyber threats, and unplanned downtime is costing our economy an estimated AU$86 billion a year,” said Marc Caltabiano, Group Vice President, Australia and New Zealand, at Splunk. “As cybersecurity becomes central to economic security and AI continues to reshape the threat landscape, we must help our partners across government and industry build resilience and meet regulatory requirements. This integration with ASD’s platform equips our customers with the intelligence to protect essential services and respond decisively as attacks grow in speed and sophistication."

The CTIS plug-in is also available to private sector organisations, including critical infrastructure operators, providing an easier way to participate in the national threat sharing effort and defend themselves. Splunk Enterprise Security, a data-driven security platform, underpins this integration – giving organisations the unified workflows, contextual threat intelligence, and automation needed to improve security operations and compliance readiness.

“Strengthening Australia’s cybersecurity capability is critical to our national economy and defences. No person, organisation or entity is immune from a cyber-attack, but through closer partnerships between governments and the private sector we can collectively join forces to tackle cyber threats to make Australia a harder target” said Stephanie Crowe, Head of ASD’s Australian Cyber Security Centre.

As part of its deepening commitment to the public sector, Splunk has also achieved an IRAP PROTECTED assessment for Splunk Observability Cloud - its 20th IRAP-assessed offering. For government agencies, this milestone provides added assurance that Splunk’s platform meets the highest standards of security and compliance, enabling them to adopt modern observability practices with confidence. By giving agencies real-time visibility and faster response capabilities, the Splunk Observability Cloud is helping to strengthen digital resilience, ensure service continuity, and deliver trusted outcomes for citizens.

“Protecting Australia’s digital future is central to our national security and resilience, and government agencies need solutions built for their unique mission,” said Sarah Sloan, Senior Director, Government Strategy, APAC, at Splunk. “Observability gives agencies the visibility and insight they need to protect critical assets, and ensure uninterrupted services that millions of Australians depend on every day. Splunk is committed to supporting the government with secure, scalable platforms that empower agencies to act with speed and confidence, while sustaining citizen trust.”
