Embrace, Extend, Enjoy: Using OpenTelemetry in a “We Can’t” World

When compliance requirements are set by legacy designs, implementing new technology often requires a bit of creative ingenuity.

This talk walks through a case study deployment of the Splunk® OpenTelemetry collector to a large multi-cluster, multi-platform Kubernetes environment spanning hundreds of nodes. We’ll delve into some of its many easily-configured features and how we used them to meet the demands of both our Kubernetes environments and our corporate compliance policies. As a bonus, we’ll use OpenTelemetry metrics to profile and improve application performance for an enterprise-wide, known poor, performing application.
