Splunk Enterprise Platform Doubles Performance and Lowers Total Cost of Ownership

Breakthroughs in Scale, Streaming Event Collection and Data Visualization Support Increasing Demand for Big Data Analytics

.conf2015, LAS VEGAS - September 22, 2015 - Splunk Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLK), provider of the leading software platform for real-time Operational Intelligence, today announced the general availability of Splunk® Enterprise 6.3, which includes significant advancements to help Splunk customers deliver value across every part of their organizations. Splunk Enterprise 6.3 delivers breakthrough performance, more advanced analytics and visualizations, and high-volume event collection for DevOps and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The hardware cost of a deployment of Splunk Enterprise can in many cases be cut in half compared to Splunk Enterprise 6.0. Splunk Enterprise 6.3 can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud, as the cloud service Splunk Cloud or in a hybrid model. Go to the Splunk website for a free trial of Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud.

“Splunk Enterprise is a mission-critical, enterprise-wide Operational Intelligence platform that today enables individual customers to process hundreds of terabytes of data per day and to gain rapid value from petabytes of current and historical data,” said Guido Schroeder, senior vice president of products, Splunk. “The new version of Splunk Enterprise, also available as a cloud service via Splunk Cloud, can enable customers to more than double performance gains in search, analytics and data ingestion. Additionally, hardware requirements for an on-premises deployment of Splunk Enterprise can be cut in half compared to two years ago.”

“Splunk’s new platform release, with faster search and analytics performance and support for new high-volume event collection, should appeal to organizations with high-velocity DevOps and IoT use cases,” said Tim Grieser, research vice president, IDC. “With this release, Splunk is continuing to make enhancements that can lower total cost of ownership and that improve enterprise manageability.”

Splunk Customers Gain Performance, TCO and More

Splunk Enterprise 6.3 delivers analysis of more data, providing more rapid results through query parallelization and improvements in capacity utilization. The new version also includes support for high-volume DevOps and IoT data collection. The new HTTP event collector uses a standard API to let applications and devices send millions of events per second directly to Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud for analysis. This new capability can also be integrated into popular developer services such as AWS Lambda from Amazon Web Services and Docker, as well as IoT services including Citrix Octoblu and Xively by LogMeIn.

“AWS Lambda has changed the way developers design and scale their dynamic applications in the cloud,” said Marco Argenti, vice president, mobile, Amazon Web Services, Inc. “The Splunk Enterprise 6.3 and Splunk Cloud integration with AWS Lambda allows customers to export, analyze and visualize their AWS Lambda application logs in a familiar Splunk environment.”

“Splunk Enterprise drives value across our business, from keeping our online banking platform running, to detecting fraud and enhancing security,” said Patrick Hofmann, head of IT infrastructure and deputy CIO, PostFinance. “The new features in Splunk Enterprise 6.3 allow us to optimize search and reporting performance across our data centers with total confidence in the availability of our data. Now, with the expected doubling of the speed of our searches we can get the insights we rely on faster than ever.”

“At Swisscom, we pride ourselves on providing a flawless experience to our customers,” said Thomas Vogt, system engineer, Swisscom. “The performance and management enhancements in Splunk Enterprise 6.3 will give us increased searching and reporting capacity, and provide faster access to the latest data. We are also looking forward to using the new anomaly detection and machine learning features of the release, which will help us to more quickly and proactively identify issues and to continue to deliver the best possible experience to our customers.”

“Splunk Enterprise is ideal for analyzing the data generated by the Internet of Things and for generating insights that support the larger operations picture, and the new version of Splunk Enterprise makes this much more efficient,” said Paddy Srinivasan, vice president of products, Xively by LogMeIn. “The HTTP event collector gives us a high-capacity pipeline for logging IoT events to Splunk solutions easily and securely. Our integration with Splunk software provides the performance and scale to handle the increasing data volumes that savvy organizations want to analyze.”
