There’s something humbling about being a student again.
As someone leading Technical Training at Splunk, now a Cisco Company, while also pursuing a PhD in Developmental Psychology, I’ve been reminded firsthand that growth doesn’t stop when you reach a certain title, tenure, or level of expertise. In fact, the more you learn, the more you realize how much there is still to discover. That growth mindset is exactly what we see reflected in the Omdia-commissioned 2025 Splunk Career Impact Report. The data collected from this research team tells a powerful story: learning Splunk isn’t just about building skills. It’s about transforming careers.
Splunk Skills are in Demand and Growing
The report illustrates a clear shift in the market. Demand for Splunk practitioners has doubled since the Cisco acquisition, and interest in building Splunk skills has surged by 107% year over year. At the same time, Splunk’s importance in professionals’ careers has more than doubled, with 43% of respondents now ranking it as a top technology to master.
It’s cause and effect. Organizations are relying on Splunk to power security, observability, and data-driven decision-making at scale. That means the people who know how to use it effectively are becoming indispensable. Not to mention that 78% of the people using it feel that they are proficient or very proficient with Splunk.
Education Is the Engine Behind Proficiency
If there’s one thing I believe deeply, from the perspective of both a leader and a student, it’s that getting good at something doesn’t just happen. Skill-building happens through intentional learning. In fact, the mantra in my Taekwondo class is that “practice makes the master.” The 2025 Career Impact Report reinforces this on many levels. Across the board, nearly 70% of users rate Splunk Education resources as excellent or good, from hands-on labs to instructor-led training to free eLearning.
Users in 2025 were 80% more likely to report being very proficient in Splunk compared to the previous year. That kind of jump doesn’t happen without accessible, high-quality learning experiences. We’re also seeing increased engagement in the Splunk community, with an 81% rise in users turning to resources to stay up to date on products and innovations. The Splunk Community is where the real magic happens. It’s the place where curious users come together to create a learning ecosystem conducive to sharing knowledge, seeing real-world use cases in action, and finding out where to go next on their Splunk journey. And, if you know me, you know how I feel about a strong community. It energizes me and gives me access to so many experts from whom I can learn.
