New R&D Facility to Accelerate the Development of the Splunk Platform for Operational Intelligence
SAN FRANCISCO - Feb. 8, 2011 - Splunk, a leading provider of operational intelligence software, today announced the opening of a Seattle research and development (R&D) office. The R&D office will be led by Brad Lovering, formerly a Microsoft Technical Fellow, as vice president of developer platform, who is building a team of world-class developers in the Seattle area.
Splunk is an IT data engine widely used across IT for monitoring applications, delivering real-time business and web analytics based on IT data, troubleshooting outages of critical infrastructure and investigating security incidents. The company recently announced record results for the year ending December 31, 2010, achieving revenues of $66 million, year-over-year growth of 96 percent, and the addition of over 900 new customers.
"Our customers have been building amazing solutions on top of Splunk, validating our investments in making Splunk a game-changing technology that delivers operational intelligence," said Erik Swan, Splunk CTO and co-founder. "We are very lucky to have Brad leading this effort, as there is no one better suited for this task than the person who helped Microsoft become a leading development platform."
Prior to joining Splunk, Lovering was a Microsoft Technical Fellow - an acknowledgement of the key role a technical leader plays in driving innovation - known for his work on products including the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Workflow Foundation (WF), Biztalk Server, .NET, Visual Studio and Visual Basic.
"I am super excited to be joining the Splunk team, whose innovative work is enabling companies to extract fundamentally new value from previously inaccessible machine data," said Brad Lovering, vice president of developer platform. "I am equally excited about the opportunity to bring this company to the Seattle area and build a team of developers that will further enhance Splunk's technology."
Splunk is the leading operational intelligence software used to monitor, report and analyze live streaming IT data as well as terabytes of historical data--located on-premise or in the cloud. Almost half of the Fortune 100 and more than 2,300 enterprises, service providers and government organizations in 74 countries use Splunk to improve service levels, reduce IT operations costs, mitigate security risks, and drive new levels of operational visibility.
