When that retention limit is reached, Splunk Insights for Infrastructure purges data on a first-in-first-out basis. Splunk Insights for Infrastructure starts with a free tier of 200GB storage capacity. Conservatively, that could monitor about 50 servers. From there, you can purchase additional storage capacity in increments of 50GB. The maximum retention capacity Splunk Insights for Infrastructure  offers is 800GB (including the 200GB free storage capacity), which could monitor about 200 servers. As mentioned above, you can expand the number of servers you manage by collecting fewer metrics and logs per server.

 

What if I want to monitor more infrastructure than the 800GB maximum retention capacity would allow?

For larger environments, we recommend upgrading to Splunk Enterprise. With enterprise-oriented features like multiple indexers, clustering, unlimited storage of ingested data and access to search, you will find Splunk Enterprise to be a better fit for your needs.
