IT Operations and DevOps teams are going through rapid transitions in technology, team structure, and role demands. As cloud technology evolves the tools they need to tackle observability are evolving to meet the new needs and requirements. You can be at the forefront of supplying critical data that is clear, useful, and actionable to keep teams running efficiently and effectively.

We're looking for a User Experience Research Manager to lead our Observability User Research team. Observability is a top priority at Splunk with a lot of exciting challenges to tackle. Your role is to lead a mix of junior and senior researchers in executing high-quality research that ensures the user’s voice and needs are part of every decision. 

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with senior leadership, product, design, and engineering teams to identify research needs

  • Lead prioritization and planning for the Observability User Research Team

  • Define scalable User Research processes to ensure maximum impact

  • Shape User Research strategy across Splunk to drive research-led initiatives

  • Identify gaps and solutions for future growth for User Research at Splunk including partnerships, diversity in methodology, and streamlining processes

  • Ensure that User Researchers have clearly prioritized deliverables for every milestone

  • Lead foundational research initiatives to support complex decisions and research methods

  • Facilitate research-led discussions to support the long-term vision for Splunk Observability

  • Communicate effectively to leverage research insights to generate a point of view and influence stakeholders

  • Support the research team in delivering impactful, actionable research findings at a range of levels

  • Be responsible for the quality of the team, including coaching, growing IC's and coaching under-performing team members

  • Build a diverse and inclusive environment across the team, model inclusive behaviors, and hold managers accountable

  • Give clear, actionable feedback on a timely basis

What you bring:

  • 10+ years’ experience leading hands-on qualitative and quantitative user research

  • 2+ years managing User Research teams

  • Degree in the field of HCI, Human Factors, Usability Engineering or related field

  • (advanced degree a plus)

  • Experience scoping and hiring to build a User Research team

  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills

  • Extensive experience planning and executing different types of research and usability testing activities

  • Strong sense of independence, ownership, and initiative with an ability to self-direct and manage what to work on, how to get it done, and when to deliver

  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple high-profile projects in a dynamic organization.

  • Strong track record of collaborating with technical teams to deliver effective user-centered solutions

  • Passion for User Research and an eagerness to expand, elevate, and evangelize the UX Research function at Splunk
