Threat Hunt and Intel Intern - Remote (Summer 2021)

Role

The Threat Hunt and Intelligence Intern works with Threat Hunting and Intelligence team in our fast-growing Global Security Operations organization. You will assist in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence to support both tactical and strategic internal customers. As a member of THI, you will work with our multi-functional teams to ensure that Splunk is always prepared for emergent threats.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and publication of various types of scheduled and ad-hoc work products in support of our SOC and CIRT missions
  • Provide after-hours intelligence support during Incidents
  • Investigate, analyze and drive operationalization of Threat Actor Group tactics, techniques, and procedures
  • Consolidate threat intelligence from various sources to deliver actionable insights
  • Drive priority and impact assessments of Splunk's Security Posture as it relates to emergent threats
  • Build internal presentations from the results of your work
  • Creation of detailed process documentation
  • Uncover opportunities for improvement through automation and process change

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in computer science, information security or related discipline or equivalent practical work experience.
  • Experience performing searching and reporting with Splunk
  • Familiarity with Threat Intel Platforms (TIPs)
  • Understanding of how DNS, DHCP, Email, and other common services work
  • Ability to reduce large datasets into meaningful information
  • Tenacious attention to detail
  • Efficient presentation skills for varied audiences
  • Strong critical thinking and limited bias are vital for this role as you will need to advise decision-makers on the best course of action based on often incomplete and subjective information.
