We are looking for a curious and analytical System Test Engineer to help us ensure product quality across the Splunk portfolio.

At Splunk, each and every release of our software is highly scrutinised to meet the demands of our customers. As a System Test Engineer, you'll have a key role in our products' success. You will collaborate with peers, field teams, and customers to understand and encapsulate the use cases into automated quality validation. You will work with product management and have the opportunity to interface directly with our customers to get direct exposure to the usage patterns we strive to satisfy. You will also drive projects to integrate quality validation into our continuous integration and test automation frameworks ensuring product quality is automated, continuous and customer-representative.

What You'll Be Doing:

As a System Test Engineer, you will ensure outstanding product quality across the Splunk portfolio with respect to product reliability, stability, interoperability, upgradeability and migratability. You will orchestrate large-scale, customer-representative environments and simulate end-user usage patterns all through a combination of proprietary and bespoke test automation frameworks. You will also develop bespoke automated tooling alongside a world-class team of both Systems and Software Engineers. You will be:

  • Implementing automated System-level (*-ability) tests against a variety of customer-representative environments and topologies (e.g. Cloud - AWS, Azure, GCP, Hybrid, On-Premise)
  • Translating product requirements (*-ability) into highly-structured, actionable test strategies and plans
  • Analysing, designing and implementing customer-representative environment orchestration and validation code in addition to developing associated bespoke automated tooling
  • Documenting and reporting Systems-level defects followed by deep root cause analysis alongside software development engineering

Who You Are & What Makes You Qualified:

You will have a strong software development background, with either exposure to, or experience in software/system test engineering. You may have limited industry experience or up to 8 years of related industry experience. You will possess:

  • Strong scripting ability in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, PowerShell and/or Bash
  • Experience of programming in languages such as C, C++ and/or Java
  • Proven ability to understand a highly complex, distributed system
  • Experience of automated test design and implementation using either bespoke automated tooling or proprietary tooling (e.g. Cypress, Selenium, Robot etc.),
  • Comfortable with Linux, container platforms (e.g Docker, Kubernetes), source control tools (e.g Git), and artefact repository management tools (e.g Artifactory) in terms of both tools and systems administration
  • Experience of integrating automated tests within a CI pipeline
  • Experience of, or exposure to engineering within cloud-native, MicroServices-based architectures is a big plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher within any engineering discipline
