Senior Linux Engineer

Role:

Splunk's Toronto Engineering team is looking for an Senior Linux Engineer to help launch Splunk’s hardware strategy. You will build innovative new products that leverage sensor data and machine learning at the edge. You will be interacting with product management and customers to understand detailed requirements. You will get to work with dedicated individuals who are doing state of the art development (embedded, mobile, backend and hardware) in the areas of machine learning and data analytics to build best-in-class business analytics software. You will also work with other engineering teams across Splunk to design and build high-performance solutions.

Responsibilities:

Some of the responsibilities you will have:

  • You will be creating custom linux distributions using Yocto or Debian for an ARM SoC.
  • You will analyze and optimize application and device driver code that pursue simplicity, efficiency, reliability and performance on custom hardware.
  • You will design, develop, code and test software systems, or applications for software improvements and new products.
  • You will build and customize the linux kernel and u-boot for custom hardware.
  • You will work with system integrators and hardware manufacturers to build a best-in-class product

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of industry experience.
  • Experience in customizing linux distributions and configuration on ARM SoCs using Yocto or Debian.
  • An expert in scripting languages such as Python/Bash
  • Comfortable with programming languages such as C/C++
  • Experience in modifying and/or debugging device drivers for the Linux kernel.
  • Knowledge of hardware bus topologies such as I2C, SPI or RS232.
  • BS CS/EE or equivalent.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of RTOS on bare-metal MCUs (such as FreeRTOS on Cortex M4).
  • Knowledge of modifying and/or debugging u-boot.
  • Knowledge of messaging protocols such as MQTT, gRPC and/or Google Protobuf.
  • Knowledge of container services such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Knowledge of wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Zigbee/ZWave.
  • Knowledge of creating restful APIs on linux systems.
