Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. The world's leading enterprises use our unified security and observability platform to keep their digital systems secure and reliable. While customers love our technology, it's our people that make Splunk stand out as an amazing career destination and why we've won so many awards as a best place to work. If you become a Splunker, we want your whole, authentic self, what we call your "million data points". So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you.
If you’ve ever been curious what the go-to-market side of a tech company looks like, but didn’t know how to make the move, here is your chance! Splunk is seeking someone with experience monitoring infrastructure and/or web applications to help connect engineers, developers, and practitioners to our world-class observability products. If you’ve written blog posts, given conference presentations, made tech videos or otherwise connected with a technical audience and want to do more, this is the opportunity for you.
In this role, you will connect with developers (in every sense of that word,) build a meaningful community with them, and educate them about observability and Splunk’s unique approach to it. You will be responsible for deciding what content needs to exist to increase adoption of observability practices at the practitioner level, and for developing this content (such as interactive games, blogs/articles, videos, demos, and conference talks.)
Your goals will revolve around building awareness, educating, and driving adoption of our products by people who use observability software in their daily work lives, such as SREs, DevOps engineers, and software engineers. You’ll create content including in-depth technical blog posts, interactive content like our Journey to Observability game and longer-form content like our award-winning Beginner’s Guide to Observability eBook. You’ll get a chance to shine by speaking at major industry events like KubeCon, AWS re:Invent, and of course our own .conf. You’ll also work with other marketing teams to develop marketing campaigns and collateral that appeal to other practitioners. You should have a passion for storytelling through product, a fun, positive attitude, and you should also genuinely enjoy helping other people figure stuff out.
Your overall goal is to get people talking about Observability (and using Splunk’s Observability products to do it), and to show off the use cases enabled by our best-in-class products.

What you’ll get to do

  • Develop technical content, including blogs, videos, how-tos, demos, and other assets to promote use cases, product capabilities and benefits for the Splunk Observability product line
  • Deliver webinars and hands-on workshops to demonstrate and accelerate adoption of products
  • Write technical blog posts and articles for Splunk.com and third-party websites
  • Develop and deliver technical enablement content for sellers and sales engineers
  • Speak at virtual or in-person events to promote and evangelize Splunk’s Observability solutions
  • Serve as an internal resource to speak authoritatively and authentically about what practitioners (e.g., DevOps teams, SREs, IT Operations teams, software developers) want in Observability products
  • Create practitioner-facing best practice tutorials for Splunk’s Observability products, including providing instruction on how to instrument third party data sources, cloud providers, and applications in a variety of languages
  • Participate in online communities & forums with target audiences to evangelize Splunk’s POV on observability, OpenTelemetry and related software delivery trends and practices
  • Partner with product management, engineering and marketing team members to drive Splunk thought leadership
  • Review practitioner-facing content written by other Splunkers for technical accuracy and relevance to SREs, DevOps engineers and software developers

Must-have qualifications

  • 6+ years combined experience in technical marketing, developer evangelism or other practitioner-focused marketing roles or time spent as an SRE, DevOps/Cloud engineer or software developer/engineer. If you’ve been on-call, that time counts double.
  • Hands-on experience with Observability tools, including infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring, AIOps, incident response, and logging tools
  • Strong understanding of modern infrastructure technologies, including virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes, public and private cloud, microservices, serverless functions, and service meshes
  • A customer champion, with a drive to go above and beyond to ensure awareness of our products, then successful adoption and onboarding
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Love of learning, strong team spirit, and willingness to self-start.
  • Positive attitude, growth mindset and eagerness to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Ability to travel to industry conferences, customer visits, sales meetings, and other U.S. and international destinations (where appropriate and as necessary - we anticipate this role will travel 10% or less of the time)

Nice-to-have qualifications

We’ve taken special care to separate the must-have qualifications from the nice-to-haves. “Nice-to-have” means just that: Nice. To. Have. So, don’t worry if you can’t check off every box. We’re not hiring a list of bullet points–we’re interested in the whole you.
  • Strong understanding of software development, debugging, optimization, and/or troubleshooting - hands-on experience with common programming languages preferred
  • Experience contributing to open source, either as a contributor, maintainer, or project/committee member
  • Ability to explain technical concepts succinctly to people at all levels (can you describe what observability is in a sentence or two to someone at a barbecue? Could you explain it in-depth to a VP of Engineering?)
  • Strong affinity for and love of technical writing
