  • - Hybrid Remote

Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. The world's leading enterprises use our unified security and observability platform to keep their digital systems secure and reliable. While customers love our technology, it's our people that make Splunk stand out as an amazing career destination and why we've won so many awards as a best place to work. If you become a Splunker, we want your whole, authentic self, what we call your "million data points". So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you.

Role Summary

Splunk is rapidly expanding their presence in the cloud, while optimizing to improve profitability. We have adopted the FinOps model of monitoring and reporting on cloud usage, and providing guidance for optimization of cloud resources. We are looking for professionals who are interested in growing the FinOps practice and tooling at Splunk. This is a phenomenal opportunity to both lead and to learn.

In this role, you will contribute at an individual level and will use your understanding of the FinOps principles to improve FinOps at Splunk. You will have opportunities to drive FinOps initiatives within the organization. You will work independently with limited guidance, and will have the opportunity to demonstrate multiple contributions each year across Splunk.

What you'll get to do

Your day to day job will include the following:

  • Maintenance and development of federated kubecost tool. Includes integration of the tool into Flexera via Plugin, development of new features and support of new CSPs, ensuring it meets uptime SLAs, and fixing issues that occur.
  • Maintenance and expansion of the cloud custodian tool. This includes supporting current usage/teams, adding capabilities to improve cloud resource management, and expansion into new cloud providers.
  • Configuring and growing usage of cost allocation tags across multiple cloud providers. Will require work in terraform and across multiple CSPs.
  • Generation of automated KPIs via API queries to a variety of tools. These KPIs are used to track our performance in tagging and cost allocation.
  • Maintenance and development of internal spend tooling. You will program in python primarily, with occasional development in Golang.
  • Automation of FinOps tasks such as usage commitment purchasing/renewal logic, and anomaly analysis.
  • Development of RFCs, perform code reviews, reduction of toil through automation.

Must-have Qualifications

  • 3-5 years or more of related work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or 2-3 years and a technical Master’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 3-5 years programming experience, with proficiency in any of the following programming languages: Python, GoLang, Java, C.

Nice-to-have Qualifications

We’ve taken special care to separate the must-have qualifications from the nice-to-haves. “Nice-to-have” means just that: Nice. To. Have. So, don’t worry if you can’t check off every box. We’re not hiring a list of bullet points–we’re interested in the whole you.

  • Experience working in a FinOps environment, with examples of tooling/analysis provided to impact cloud spend.
  • Experience implementing or reviewing KPIs for improvement of FinOps capabilities.
  • Experience working with at least 1 cloud service provider: AWS, Azure, GCP. Familiarity with billing constructs and basic services. Certification in one of the providers is a plus.
  • Able to independently own a software project and drive it to a measurable outcome.
  • FinOps Practitioner certification
  • Bonus: Experience collaborating across the multiple FinOps personas, particularly Engineering, Product Management and Finance teams.

What We Provide

We are a large company, and what you help to build will be relied on for monitoring/reporting against multiple products and will be used by hundreds of engineers. You will be able to materially impact the operating margins of Splunk through your efforts, gaining skills that will remain marketable as you grow and more companies around the world move workloads into the cloud.
