Role

As part of Splunk's Cloud-First mission, Data Reliability is accountable for the overall quality, reliability, and accessibility of data collected in our cloud production environments. We are software engineers, site reliability engineers, and Splunk experts who engage with product and infrastructure teams at every level, from directly embedding on their teams to tagging in for the gnarliest of data challenges. Our goal is to make high quality, predictable data aggregated and presented in a single source that will translate into better decision making and outcomes.

You Will:

  • Craft and develop software to improve the engineering velocity of teams and increase the reliability of Splunk data.
  • Mentor new software engineers to achieve more than they thought possible.
  • Work across the organization to deliver quality products that delight Splunk's hardworking users.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer, Data Scientist, or Data Engineer
  • Understanding of observability libraries and ability to instrument code to expose new application metrics.
  • You enjoy making other teams successful and are fulfilled through the success of others.
  • You enjoy mentoring junior engineers in order to uplevel the skill of your teams.
  • Knowledge of standard methodologies related to security, controls, performance, and disaster recovery.
  • Skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks, identifying anomalous system behavior, and resolving root cause of service issues.
  • Familiarity and passion around SRE methodology.
  • Develop and execute analysis plans
  • Identify and build detailed data pipelines
  • Develop and maintain methods to retrieve, condition, validate, synthesize, and manipulate data
  • Conduct exploratory analysis
  • Identify and visualizing trends
  • Build and validate models
  • Iterate, document, and communicate throughout problem lifecycle

Preferred skills:

  • Passion for solving practical data-driven business questions
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated track record of critical thinking translated into concrete products
  • BA +5 years or Masters +3 years of professional experience in data science or engineering
  • Strong software engineering skills in an interpreted language
  • Experience manipulating and interpreting large and diverse datasets
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods and software packages
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
