Senior Technical Documentation Manager, Security Products

We are looking for an experienced, innovative information development manager to join the Splunk docs team. You will be responsible for people and project management, with minimal writing responsibilities. In this role, you will work with the Senior Director of Documentation and other doc manager colleagues to lead a team of 6-8 technical writers located in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. You will coordinate the development and delivery of enterprise software content for system administrators and security analysts who use Splunk security products to detect incidents and anomalies, orchestrate responses, and analyze user activity. Working in close partnership with engineering, product management, and user experience, your team will build and maintain online user documentation and in-product user assistance. We also benefit from an ongoing conversation with our customers, and continuously update our content with improvements and enhancements based on their feedback. You must thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where a sharp sense of humor is basic currency.


  • Support your team members as they manage multiple, simultaneous content-development projects from planning and estimation through development, delivery, and maintenance.
  • Participate actively in meetings with cross-functional team members to advocate for customers and a whole-product perspective.
  • Collaborate with writers and our technical editors to address information architecture questions and challenges.
  • Guide the performance and professional development of technical writers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Interact daily with customers through doc feedback and other channels to address questions, derive requirements, and participate in the Splunk community.


  • 5+ years directly leading technical writers who develop enterprise software documentation in an Agile product development environment.
  • Knowledge of security products, including SIEM, SOAR, and behavior analytics.
  • Experience with data analytics products and services.
  • Consistent track record in performance management and career development of individual contributors.
  • Practical experience in topic-based content, minimalism, and use-case documentation.
  • Firsthand experience talking directly and regularly with customers.


Bachelor's degree in English, Technical and/or Professional Writing, Journalism, Management, or a related degree.
