Senior Staff technical writer

Splunk Cloud NOC is looking for a staff technical writer to be a part of the Cloud Network Operations Center (CNOC). The responsibility of the Splunk CNOC is to supervise and resolve issues that affect the availability and performance of Splunk for our cloud customers. As the authority on our customer’s experience, the CNOC is the frontline of defense in making sure each of our customers has an outstanding experience.

Technical writers on our team play a vital role in keeping our customers advised during incidents, and providing root cause messages. As a technical writer at Splunk, you'll work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate daily with software engineers, product managers, and other technical writers. You’ll build customer focused documentation during an incident and post incidents reports.

Responsibilities

  • Craft clear and accurate communications that enables customers to understand impact and path forward during and after incidents.
  • Work closely with technical response teams and engineering managers to define communication requirements and produce customer-facing docs.
  • Discuss technical details and solve problems with engineers, customer support reps, technical writers, and customers every day.
  • Collaborate with other writers and coordinate on the delivery of shared content.
  • Follow an established style guide and work with editors to build the best possible communications for customers.
  • Respond directly to internal feedback and integrate internal suggestions to continuously improve your communications.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience writing documentation for sophisticated enterprise software products.
  • Ability to lead time and priorities in a dynamic development environment at a high-growth company.
  • Experience detailing software systems that are configured through API endpoints and command-line interfaces, as well as a GUI.
  • BA/BS degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, a related technical field, or relevant professional experience.
  • Samples that showcase your best work.

Other relevant skills

  • Working knowledge of Unix or Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with REST API concepts and functionality.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and clusters.
  • Experience writing for system administrator audiences.
  • Knowledge of Splunk software and use cases.
