Senior Staff Technical Writer, IT Products

We're looking for a versatile technical writer to join the Splunk docs team. Create high-quality documentation for our portfolio of IT products, including Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI) and Splunk IT Essentials. You'll document analytics-driven IT Operations tools that unify metrics and logs for troubleshooting and monitoring. Be part of a fast-paced team where your contributions really make a difference in our customers' experience.

We are big fans of describing the how, why, and who of an application, not just what the software can do. As a writer documenting IT products, you'll identify common customer scenarios and show users how to solve specific problems. You'll use feedback from the field and from customers using your product to continuously improve your docs. You'll work side-by-side with the product team to create and maintain online user documentation and in-product user assistance.

To succeed in this role, you're a confident writer of customer-centric docs who is eager to learn about IT products at Splunk and is passionate about helping people solve problems. You’re an independent self-starter who’s able to quickly get up to speed on new technologies. You're thrilled about joining a team of supportive, diverse tech writers and editors, and you're prepared to tell us stories that demonstrate how you learn about new technologies, focus on what’s relevant for customers, and how you’ll apply that learning at Splunk.


  • Plan, research, and draft user docs that make using complex products easy for end users and administrators.
  • Work closely with development teams and product managers to understand your products and the people who use them.
  • Become an authority in the Splunk platform and apps.
  • Actively promote customer-centered product development and create content based on customer scenarios.
  • Passionately pursue information that your customers need to be successful.
  • Respond to and address customer feedback on your documentation.


  • Interest in researching and writing excellent software documentation that customers rave about
  • Ability to organize complex information into a structure and flow that's accessible to system administrators and end users
  • Enthusiasm about writing docs with a strong customer focus
  • Willingness to collaborate with and mentor other writers 
  • 8+ years of experience developing outstanding user documentation
  • Ability to handle multiple schedules and competing requirements, and take the initiative to look for opportunities to contribute to the team
  • BA/BS degree and/or relevant professional experience
