The Sustaining Engineering team at Splunk assists customer success teams by maintaining and enhancing customer Splunk core product deployments both on premises and on Splunk Cloud. Be part of this ever-growing team, where you will help resolve the technically challenging issues reported by global customers.


We are looking for a software engineer who is motivated and passionate about fixing & diagnosing problems in large bodies of complex code, delivering fixes to customers with rapid turnaround time and high quality. We continually improve the product based on requirements and defects reported by Support, Customer Success and Field organizations. This role is based in our North Sydney office and will join our Global Sustaining Engineering team!


  • You will investigate and fix customer reported problems in the backend components in an efficient and responsive manner. These could vary from product defects to mis-configurations in customer environment, including but not limited to network problems, disk IO slowness and file system issues
  • You will leverage the experience gained by resolving problems in the field to provide continuous feedback & further contribute to product enhancements & quality improvements
  • You will act as an Escalation point of contact for the allocated Splunk features, and provide technical guidance to Support, Sales, Cloud operations and QA organizations to resolve high priority problems
  • You will participate in remote trouble shooting sessions with customers and occasional on-call weekend engagements


  • You have 6+ years of experience with maintaining, troubleshooting & enhancing large scale multi-threaded applications in a distributed environment, preferably using C++/C Languages. Any scripting experience would be considered a plus
  • You have strong analytical, debugging and troubleshooting skills including use of tools
  • You have strong understanding of Unix/Linux and/or Windows internals, file systems, networking protocols, disk & memory management
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
  • You possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • You demonstrate passion towards customer success
  • You have BS or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
