Role

Splunk is looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic, and capable Product Manager to drive the future of search and data platform services at Splunk. You would initially be responsible for Splunk’s distributed search processing, which is an integral part of our core value to customers. In this role, you will define the critical features and roadmap for bringing high-scale, high-performance search to Splunk customers and app developers.

You will use your understanding of the data platforms, analytics, and big data ecosystems to synthesize ideas that improve Splunk's data platform service offering. Your cross-team collaboration skills will enable those improvements to be conceptualized and delivered to drive meaningful and impactful business outcomes.

You will work in the Data Platform area at Splunk, so a real appreciation for the needs of developers is vital, and a work history that includes some time in engineering roles is likely a plus.

You will merge attention to technical detail with an ability to understand and align to business imperatives while working hand-in-glove with cross-functional execution teams to drive customer insights and inputs directly into the development process. Ideally, you have some experience running customer advisory boards.

Responsibilities

As with any fast-growing company, day-to-day responsibilities will span the entire product delivery pipeline and include deep interaction with customers, sales, and engineering.

  • Own the whole product experience for your area.
  • Engage with customers, develop insights into what is possible, and uncover unarticulated needs to ensure customer success.
  • Build product roadmaps based on customers' needs, including market and technology forces.
  • Define product specifications, user stories, mockups, and acceptance criteria independently and in collaboration with engineering.
  • Interact and collaborate with Support, NOC, and field teams to understand customer issues and drive business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, QA, SRE, and release teams to plan, drive and execute product release cycles.
  • Collaborate with product marketing to support the creation of content.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of proven success in product management.
  • Familiarity with cloud services, batch/stream data processing, and distributed search.
  • Strong sense of empathy to care deeply about customer problems and the user experience.
  • Analytical thinking skills and a data-informed approach to decision-making.
  • Collaborative, with strong communication skills, including the ability to translate sophisticated technical products and features into simple concepts and presentations.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience building platform services/products with a focus on search processing, query language, high availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Deep understanding of data platform market and competition.
  • Strong bias for action, creative thinking, innovation, and data-informed product decision-making.
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure and agile software development
  • Passion for solving interesting technical problems and building enterprise products with intuitive user experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g. EE, CS); MBA or similar degree highly preferred
