Senior Engineering Manager (Observability/Synthetics)

Splunk Synthetics is a new generation of synthetics monitoring solutions for complex web applications and backend services. As applications and systems become more complex and user experience is at high stake, observability - the ability to monitor and understand the systems and how they impact users, becomes one of the biggest challenges for engineering teams. We are building world-class tools to help engineers deliver better, faster, and more reliable applications.
We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to help lead a diverse team of engineers to build a new product as we continue to innovate on application observability. We move fast and iterate quickly. We are obsessed with solving customers’ problems. We have ambitious goals to build best-of-its-kind products. You will help the team win in a fast-growing market.
As a manager at Splunk, your primary role is to help your team reach its maximum potential through mentorship and coaching. You will bring a ton of empathy while holding the line of high quality and helping people grow. You will collaborate closely with your peers across all engineering areas as well as product management, program management, UX, and documentation cross-functional teams to help your team deliver success to our customers. We want you to enable every team member to do the best work of their lives.
Responsibilities
- You will develop psychological safety in the teams.
- You will cultivate an atmosphere of continuous improvement by serving as a coach, mentor, and technical advisor.
- You will diagnose and resolve systemic obstacles that prevent your team from delivering high-quality software.
- You will facilitate technical discussions and help your team make smart technical decisions that balance both short-term and long-term goals.
- You will foster the mindset of strong ownership and empower people to take initiative.
- You will be responsible for the execution and delivery of your team.
- You will work with product management team members to help resolve priorities and the roadmap for your team.
- You will plan and support career development.
- You will recruit and retain great talents for your team.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams focused on large-scale SaaS systems.
- Demonstrated experience with DevOps practices and leading teams to build and operate their own services.
- Passionate about good engineering practices, new technologies, and improving processes, and a consistent record of mentoring and coaching team members.
- Passionate about building elegant and powerful tools to solve customer problems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- 10+ years of Software Engineering experience and recent 4+ years of experience managing engineering teams.

Base Pay Range
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay Range: $192,000.00 - 264,000.00 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay Range: $172,000.00 - 236,500.00 per year
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay Range: $156,000.00 - 214,500.00 per year
Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
