Senior Engineering Manager - Observability/Real User Monitoring

We're looking for an experienced engineering manager to help lead a diverse team of engineers as we continue to innovate on Splunk RUM – our Real User Monitoring solution. As a manager, your primary role is to help your team reach its maximum potential and excel in its day-to-day execution through mentorship, staying engaged with our current projects and charting dependencies and risks, participating in design and technical decisions, helping the team overcome any obstacles, provide a psychological safety net to the team and play an active part in your team’s growth.

Role and responsibilities

  • You will develop psychological safety on the teams.
  • You will cultivate an atmosphere of continuous improvement by serving as a coach, mentor, and technical advisor.
  • You will diagnose and resolve obstacles that will facilitate your team in delivering high-quality software.
  • You will be responsible for the planning, execution and delivery on the product roadmap.
  • You will work with the UX team to build an engaging and intuitive User Experience.
  • You will meet with team members on a regular basis and invest in their career growth and development.
  • You will play an active part in recruiting and retaining talent.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or a related technical field combined with at least 5 years of software development experience in an Agile environment and 4+ years of engineering management experience.
  • Experience developing and delivering scalable, full-stack multi-tenant SaaS products
  • Passionate about good engineering practices, new technologies, UX and improving processes, and a consistent record of mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices including Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice to have skills

  • Scrum master experience and/or recent CSM, PMI-ACP, CSP-SM, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience working in or leading engineering teams distributed across geographies and timezones.
  • Experience in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React and/or Angular.
  • Experience in Java, backend web/API frameworks and/or distributed systems.
