Splunk is looking for a Finance leader to join its dynamic organization. Heading the Sales FP&A team you will directly partner with Splunk’s Chief Revenue Officer to shape the strategy and execution of our Field and Sales organization supporting our fast growing business. 

Reporting to the VP of Go-To-Market (GTM) finance, this Sr. Director of Finance will build and lead an FP&A organization to establish effective planning & reporting processes that scale with our growth, while also acting as the strategic thought partner to the business. In addition to maintaining strong controllership and operating oversight, you will drive the truth-seeking analysis critical to optimizing resource allocation and effectively balancing Splunk’s high-growth trajectory with desired improvements in operating leverage as we transition into a cloud-first, SaaS organization. You will manage a team of 10 managers and analysts, and oversee an organization with 3,500+ people, representing $1B+ in opex. This is a high visibility role where you will prepare presentations and provide strategic advice for executive staff, including the CEO, CFO and BOD.

Responsibilities: I want to and can do that!

  • You will become a key advisor to the CRO and their leadership team, building forecasting models and productivity frameworks to link key inputs and outputs across Sales’ partner organizations of Marketing and Customer Success
  • You will roll up your sleeves and develop annual operating plans, quarterly and monthly financial forecasts, and ongoing analysis of actuals versus plan and/or forecast
  • You will develop and monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances. Work with team members to enhance global financial and operational performance trends (historical and forecasted) using appropriate metrics
  • You will collaborate with leaders in our sales operations and global field enablement teams to identify and address inputs of sales rep performance (quota attainment), design innovative sales incentive plans which align with our top-line growth objectives, and optimize placement and approve incremental capacity to further penetrate our TAM 
  • You will provide counsel on strategic financial matters that focus on expense control and profitability of the business. Identify trends and resulting implications, propose key actions and strategic implications
  • You will prepare management reporting / dashboards for Executives - analyze results, distill/synthesize business performance indicators, assess business risk and operating performance, and timely communicate risks and opportunities to management
  • You will effectively lead, develop and motivate a team of ~10
  • Create, support and implement strategic initiatives that advance Splunk’s business objectives

Requirements: I’ve already done that or have that!

  • 15+ years of related experience in a leadership role within a Finance organization and must be a proven finance leader for a SaaS business and/or in support of large sales organizations
  • Strong leader with solid experience building and leading high performing teams
  • Experience in financial / process / operational / technology reviews, risk assessment required with the ability to construct well-targeted management reports within the context of business/industry operations/practices
  • Demonstrated success in developing and applying concepts, practices and procedures of financial planning and analysis. Outstanding forecasting methods and techniques. Advanced analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Capable of communicating complex financial information in an easy to understand format. Able to interact comfortably with the executive management team
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization in an open office setting and a highly collaborative environment with a high growth, start-up mentality
  • Superior software and system skills (e.g. Microsoft Excel) a must. SQL, SAP, Workday, experience a plus
  • This role is for doers; be able to get into the details and get the job done while at the same time being able to see the forest for the trees
  • Ability to drive alignment on priorities with senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, thrive in a fast-paced environment and stay flexible through growth and change

Education: Got it!

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics or related relevant areas
