Splunk Platform is looking for a seasoned engineering leader to help develop and grow our Data Platform organization, which includes storage, indexing, search, query federation, and SPL, the Splunk query language. Search is the heart of a data company, and a performant, innovative, and scalable data platform is the key to Splunk’s past, present, and future success. This is a highly-visible role, as you will own many of the projects essential not only to our near-term success, but also developing critical new IP that will create the next generation of Splunk searching and user experiences.


You are someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and has a track record of technical expertise and management responsibility, as well as leading distributed organizations. As we drive forward for the success of our customers you will hold the team accountable to achieve goals of engineering excellence and product value.


Your job includes collaborating closely with your peers across all engineering areas as well as product management, program management, SRE, SDET, and UX. We want you to enable every team member to do the best work of their lives. 


You will be in high demand and this role requires a strong leader who brings a ton of empathy while holding the line of high quality and frequent product releases. You will provide enough structure to bring about prioritization of work that has the biggest impact for Splunk’s customers, while allowing flexibility and empowerment of teams to deliver beyond our customers’ expectations.


You will bring vision and creativity to the organization, guiding the team on when we need clever computer science solutions, or when we should change our approach. You will be partnering closely with product to create and drive roadmaps and multi-year strategies, and integrate closely with both internal and external customers to figure out how to continue to delight them with what we have available.


Requirements


  • Experience hiring and developing teams and designing organizations
  • Experience growing and running a team in an always-on cloud services environment, prioritizing ops and security appropriately
  • Developing team identity, empowering direct reports and building career growth options for your team, while also keeping the team aligned with, rather than in competition with, the rest of Spulnk
  • Experience working directly with customers and training engineers how to work with customers
  • Experience building cloud-native services
  • Experience building and cultivating strong engineering practices and processes
  • BS CS/EE or equivalent with 15+ years of industry experience, of which 8+ years is in Engineering Management, including managing other managers.

  • You will diagnose and resolve systemic obstacles that prevent your team from delivering high-quality software.
  • You will champion an atmosphere of continuous improvement by serving as a coach, mentor, and technical advisor.
  • You will recruit and retain top talent.
  • You will create long-term plans and strategies with product, and work with the teams around you to bring them to fruition
  • You will bring an “always shipping” mindset to your org, encouraging frequent releases and rapid failure recovery
  • You will focus on customer outcomes, tying team work and goals to those outcomes, and foster customer empathy in all engineers
