Role

We are seeking a motivated, self-starter to join Splunk’s growing Data Protection team. In this role, you will make an immediate contribution to the company's continued growth and success by acting as a subject matter expert for data protection and security related issues throughout the organization. This attorney will be based in San Francisco, CA, and will report to Splunk’s Sr. Director, Data Protection.

You also possess proven professional skills such as excellent legal and business judgment; strong writing, speaking/presentation/ analytical skills; deep understanding of data protection and security laws (US and EU); strong foundation in network security architecture and SaaS computing; strong interpersonal and project management skills; history of developing relationships of trust and confidence with business partners. Responsibilities

  • Advise, guide, and mentor others on the Data Protection Team and throughout the business (HR, Marketing, Field Sales, IT/Security) on strategically important laws and regulations in the EU and the US, such as GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive/Regulation, the NIS Directive, HIPAA, CCPA and related state and federal legislation
  • Support to the Commercial team on complex, strategic commercial transactions involving data protection and security terms
  • Help develop and mature Splunk’s data protection programs, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, ISO, SOC2, PCI, and FedRAMP
  • Build strong internal and external corporate relationships while balancing Splunk’s global strategy and priorities
  • Help ensure adherence to global data protection and security laws, while enabling the development and execution of business initiatives
  • Anticipate changes to and advise on relevant laws impacting Splunk’s commercial activities and its customers
  • Support M&A due diligence and integration activities
  • Support strategic initiatives that advance Splunk’s business, including those relating to governmental affairs
  • Perform other legal responsibilities as requested

Requirements

  • Top academic credentials and qualified to practice law in US or UK (or in-house equivalent)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in representing clients in data protection and security matters in the US and the EU
  • Significant law firm experience advising technology clients on matters involving data protection and security is preferred
  • Significant commercial transaction experience with complex licensing agreements (including channel partner agreements) with fast paced technology companies
  • Deep understanding of IT/Security infrastructure, network architecture and SaaS computing
