Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. The world's leading enterprises use our unified security and observability platform to keep their digital systems secure and reliable. While customers love our technology, it's our people that make Splunk stand out as an amazing career destination and why we've won so many awards as a best place to work. If you become a Splunker, we want your whole, authentic self, what we call your "million data points". So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you.

Are you someone who enjoys dissecting problems to their fundamental elements and finding innovative insight? Do you thrive on tackling security challenges from the ground up and love sharing your insights with others? If so, let’s talk!

We are looking for a junior or mid-level candidate to join the SURGe team, a diverse group of Security Strategists within the Global Technical Sales (GTS) organization at Splunk, dedicated to cybersecurity research and evangelism.

The primary function of GTS is to unify, advance, and expand the value of the Splunk portfolio by providing deep technical and domain expertise to incubate new and emerging Security, IT and DevOps use-cases and solutions. As a part of the SURGe team, you would join Global Security Strategists as the ‘black belt’ technical and deep domain security experts at Splunk. Their purpose is to identify and incubate emerging and strategic use-cases and solutions that will unify, advance and expand the value of security use-cases for our customers.

As a security strategist on SURGe, you'll work in every part of Splunk's security world. From sales to researching major security incidents, from blogging to speaking on stage, to researching and innovating. Security strategists at Splunk, on any level, are quick problem-solvers, storytellers, and have a passion for the big picture.

Splunk is a global company with global customers, and this is a worldwide team. The day-to-day job is flexible both in content and schedule. You might spend your first 60 minutes on your couch catching up on last night's flurry of Slacks from colleagues on the other side of the world while reading Mastodon #infosec. Or you might be presenting at 0800 to a CISO from a large bank in Segovia.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the freedom to explore a wide range of topics with the goal of making meaningful contributions to the cybersecurity community. Your work will focus on addressing strategic problems facing organizations, identifying novel research topics, and developing insights into complex cybersecurity challenges. A typical day might involve collaborating with diverse global teams, mentoring others, or submitting a CFP for a major cybersecurity conference. You may also draft a blog to share your latest findings or provide expert commentary in an interview to a major media outlet. Working in this role, you will become a trusted advisor and partner to Splunk customers while being empowered to drive positive change in the world of cybersecurity.

Qualifications

We are seeking a junior or mid-level candidate experienced in cybersecurity. They should have knowledge in cybersecurity, public speaking, networking, research, and/or development. That can mean many things, and none of them have to do with "years of experience” or “certificates.” They should be interested in exploring complex technical topics in the realm of cybersecurity, and be able to break them down into digestible pieces worthy of storytelling.

We do have some specific areas of knowledge that we are looking for you to have when you walk in the door. However, don’t limit yourself if you don’t check all of the boxes. We still want to hear from you!
  • You must be enthusiastic about applying your skills in the domain of cybersecurity
  • You are comfortable communicating (verbally and written), though you will get plenty of practice so we aren’t seeking perfection
  • You are proficient in at least one of these subjects: security operations, Splunk, data science/machine learning, public speaking, academic research, or system administration
  • You are capable of and have a desire to collaborate on projects with multiple global stakeholders
  • You enjoy and are able to mentor others
  • Can take complex cybersecurity topics and distill them into clear, digestible insights for diverse audiences, ranging from junior analysts to senior executives
  • You have, or are interested in, delivering engaging and accessible presentations, webinars, and workshops on relevant topics
  • Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams to contribute fresh ideas and meaningful insights to the cybersecurity community globally
  • You are fluent in English (but we would be excited to find out you're a polyglot!)
  • You are passionate about staying current on industry trends, emerging threats, and new technologies to continuously improve research and presentations
  • Something that we haven’t thought of but that you know we need. If our requirements seem wide open, it’s because we are open to different skills and abilities.
