Sales Director; State & Local Government and Education (Northeast) - Public Sector

Location:  Northeast, USA

We are seeking a visionary sales leader to join our team as Director of Sales for State and Local/K-12. You will report into the SLED AVP for Global Public Sector. In addition to requisite passion, skills and experience, you will demonstrate a measurable track record in building and managing high performing sales organizations within the SLED market. You will play a key role driving a significant share of revenue for Splunk.

  • You will directly build and lead the State and Local sales team and work closely with internal technical resources and sales team members
  • You will also consistently deliver license and renewal, support and service revenue targets as well as commitment to the team number and to deadlines
  • You will lead your team in negotiating favorable pricing and business terms with SLED agencies and system integrators
  • Work with inside sales and partners for maximum effectiveness
  • Use sales engineering and in-house as well as partner services resources
  • Player/coach, hands on and leads from the front that will be very involved with account planning, strategy and sales calls
  • Hire the right team to match our growth which has been over 300% the past 2 years
  • Use our validated sales methodology and processes effectively
  • We seek talent with a keen understand the State & Local Community.
  • Good corporate citizen – two-way flow of relevant and timely information; collaborate as a team for the most efficient use and deployment of resources
  • Provide timely and insightful feedback back to other corporate functions, product management and marketing in particular


5+ years experience building and running federal front line sales teams; ability to grow and scale upward with the company; second line management experience is a big advantage given our growth trajectory.

  • 10+ years SLED and higher education selling experience
  • Adept in selling to the “C” suite with a track record of closing six and seven figure software licensing deals
  • Strong executive presence and polish
  • Demonstrated excellence in forecasting team dedications with accuracy
  • Extraordinary management, interpersonal, written and presentation skills
  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-growing, rapidly changing environment
  • Able to work independently and remotely from other members of your team and corporate
  • Relevant software industry experience in IT systems, enterprise or infrastructure management
  • Improve our "win" rate
  • Prior use CRM systems (Sales Force) extensively
  • Ability to recruit A players

Education and experience requirements:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree; MBA highly desired
