Principal Software Engineer - Application Performance Monitoring

Role:

We are seeking an individual with a strong mix of Technical Support and Engineering experience to triage and fix complex issues in Splunk’s SaaS APM solution. This individual will work closely with our Engineering, Customer Support, and Field Teams to troubleshoot and address high-priority issues, as well as provide valuable feedback to our Product Teams to improve the resilience and user experience of our products. In order to succeed on this team this individual must have the passion and energy to work in an entrepreneurial and fast paced environment, and the willingness and desire to consistently learn new technologies and frameworks. They must love participating in and contributing to open source projects, and welcome the challenge of helping shape Splunk’s expanding portfolio of capabilities in the Observability Space.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across a wide range of systems by collaborating with a variety of internal stakeholders
  • Identify common failure patterns and draft plans to address them
  • Develop a broad understanding of our product’s technical architecture to propose solutions to commonly observed problems
  • Analyze data, and create monitoring and observability solutions to prevent, detect and resolve issues
  • Triage and remediate high priority issues and bugs
  • Collaborate with our product teams to improve our product and reduce issues
  • Create tooling to help internal stakeholders (e.g. Customer Support) better triage issues without Engineering assistance
  • Document and develop best practices to for our customers to get the most out of our Splunk APM Offering

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience of shipping production code within a complex system
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences 
  • A love of problem solving and dealing with challenging/complex issues
  • Experience with a variety of programming language and frameworks such as Java and GoLang.
