Incident Response Intern - Remote (Summer 2021)

The Role

SplunkCIRT is responsible for coordinating the response to all Cyber Security Incidents at Splunk. As a team member on SplunkCIRT, you be an integral part of the high-level responses to complex cyber security incidents affecting Splunk’s corporate and cloud environments. Successful analysts at Splunk are life long learners and passionate about all things security. Additionally, critical thinking and superb communication skills are vital for this role.

You will work with multifaceted and dynamic groups of teams across the company to contain incidents as quickly as possible. You will assist our DFIR Analysts to determine the steps necessary to execute a technical investigation to discover security gaps and malicious activity for near and long term remediation actions. Once the incident is contained, you will enable the delivery of context and key details from the incident with non-technical external stakeholders to drive security standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

  1. Build strong relationships with business owners and service providers from across Splunk
  2. Command the response to cyber security events and escalate complex events to senior commanders
  3. Conduct analysis during technical investigations to reconstruct the chain of events that resulted in a cyber security incident
  4. Identify opportunities to improve Splunk’s cyber security posture through Threat Hunt, detection, architecture, and risk management work streams
  5. Keep up to date with the latest cyber threats and technologies
  6. Tell the story of cyber security incidents via detailed reports and presentations to key business level stakeholders

Requirements

  1. Passion for researching the security aspects of emerging technologies, such as Docker or Kubernetes
  2. Demonstrated enthusiasm for triaging, analyzing, and responding to security events
  3. Conceptual knowledge of administering/defending/analyzing server systems.
  4. Foundational knowledge in any of the following: Digital Forensics, detection creation, threat hunting, Reverse engineering
  5. Foundational knowledge of Cloud technologies (GCP, Azure, AWS) OR experience responding to cyber security incidents in public cloud environments
  6. Ability to follow defined processes and procedures
  7. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and take-charge during stressful situations
  8. Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  9. Good interpersonal skills and ability to see things through the customer’s eyes
  10. Willingness and desire to think outside of the box for creative solutions to problems with the moxie to follow-through
  11. Must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program. Graduates of December 2021 or later are only eligible for an internship.
