Congrats to the Winner of the April 2019 Karma Competition on Splunk Answers

Welcome to the “Where Will Your Karma Take You” monthly contest! Every month when we release this blog, we get super excited. Usually, when you read Splunk Community blogs, you are rewarded with knowledge, and hey—there's nothing wrong with that! But by the final paragraph of this blog, one dedicated Splunk Answers users is going to walk away with something more tangible than information: a free pass to .conf19! How cool is that? It’s our way of saying thanks, because let’s face it—Splunk Answers wouldn’t be the useful tool that it is without our awesome community.

If you are an existing Splunk user, then you know getting a free pass to .conf is a BIG deal. But, if you are new here, you may be wondering—what is .conf, anyway? .conf is a four day Splunk conference extravaganza, where Splunk users get to meet other members of the community, like the SplunkTrust, pick and choose between hundreds of Splunk technical sessions, learn about Splunk product releases, and so much more.

Plus, if that isn’t enough, did we mention that .conf is in Las Vegas this year? ヽ(o^▽^o)ノ

Registration for .conf19 is now open, so head on over to the .conf19 website and secure your spot amongst industry leaders today!

And now, the reason you are reading this blog…

So, you may be wondering how we decide which Splunk Answers user receives a free pass to .conf19. To understand how we pick the winner, you have to understand the forum’s karma points system.

Like many forums across the interwebs, Splunk Answers uses karma points as a way to gauge a user’s involvement on the forum. You can gain karma on Answers in many different ways—did someone accept your solution? You get karma. Did someone upvote your comment because it was so spot on? You get karma in that scenario too.

To learn more about how to earn karma on the forum, check out this Splunk docs page, "How to earn Karma on Answers."

So how do we pick the winner? You may have guessed already. The Splunk Answers user who earns the most karma points in a competition period (each period lasts one month) wins the free pass to .conf!

The winner for April 2019 has been a consistent contributor the past couple months, ranking in the top 5 for both February and March competitions. He’s stayed true to helping field fellow community members’ questions week after week, and the result is not only the well-deserved recognition, but a free pass to .conf19!

And with that, we are very happy to announce the winner of the April 2019 competition period is *drum roll*lakshman239! A round of applause and much thanks goes out to him for all of his help on Splunk Answers.

While we only give out one pass to .conf per competition period, we think it is important to acknowledge everyone who made the top 5 list of karma earners. Thank you all for your contributions on the forum!

Here are the top 5 karma earners on Splunk Answers for the month of April 2019:

  1. lakshman239
  2. jeffland
  3. harshpatel
  4. VatsalJagani
  5. dmarling

In the description of .conf19 up above, you may have noticed a mention of the SplunkTrust. If you are unfamiliar with the SplunkTrust, they are Splunk Community members that we think have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Since SplunkTrust membership already includes a free pass to .conf, these members are not eligible for this contest. But that doesn’t mean we can’t show them a little love, right?

Here are the top 5 SplunkTrust karma earners for the month of April 2019:

  1. woodcock
  2. niketnilay
  3. somesoni2
  4. adonio
  5. harsmarvania57

Thanks to everyone who contributes to the forum!

And, if you didn’t win this month, that’s okay! July is the last month of the contest, which means you still have a few more chances to win a pass to .conf19.
