IT Search Gains Rapid Momentum

Splunk Celebrates A Great First Year Selling Its High Performance IT Search Engine

San Francisco —January 16, 2007 — Splunk, creators of the original IT Search engine, today announced the company dramatically exceeded its business goals for 2006. One year ago Splunk released their high-performance IT Search engine. More than 140 enterprise customers now have their data centers equipped with IT Search and more than 75,000 users around the world, more than 80% of which are Fortune 500, have downloaded the free Splunk software. The company also added 19 OEMs and technology partners to its growing Splunk Powered program. This milestone year established IT Search as a new category of solution for availability, security and compliance in the data center and positioned Splunk as the innovator driving the market.

IT Search

Splunk's software, launched in December 2005, is an IT Search engine that crawls applications, services and devices looking for sources of logs, configurations, traps and alerts, messages and activity reports produced by any data center technology. Splunk indexes any source of IT data in real time. With ad-hoc search and navigation any network engineer, system administrator, operations manager, security and compliance analyst, developer or help desk staff can figure out what’s happening anywhere in their IT infrastructure. Any search can be summarized as a report or saved as a live alert. IT Search is critical to availability of applications, servers and devices, detecting and investigating security incidents and meeting compliance requirements.

The company's most recent release, Splunk 2.1, added enhanced performance and unlimited scalability through distributed search, improved datastore efficiency, solution bundles for common configurations and a developer API to customize, extend and integrate Splunk with other data center tools.

During 2006, the company also launched Splunk Base, a global IT data wiki. Splunk Base is a free online service that integrates with the Splunk IT Search engine. Through a global wiki of IT events the worldwide community of IT professionals can look-up and share in-depth information about specific events recorded by any application, server or device. More than 10,000 people are already participating in Splunk Base.

Customer and Partner Momentum

Splunk experienced rapid sales momentum in 2006, gaining over 140 enterprise customers and exceeding 75,000 user downloads. Customers cover a wide range of industries including e-commerce, transportation, energy, financial, government, higher education, manufacturing, technology, telecommunications, consumer products, consumer electronics, online services, healthcare, biotechnology, entertainment and IT services.

"Splunk has made it possible for us to quickly report on log exceptions, contributing to our own SOX compliance efforts, as well as those of our customers," said Steve Loyd VP of Information Technology and Security, Intraware. "Splunk has made our daily log review a lot easier because of its automated event typing and intelligent grouping of events. Splunk's cut the time it takes for us to do this from an average of an hour a day down to 10-20 minutes most days."
