Hello,
I am testing a free version of Splunk on a linux box (Fedora 9 kernel 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686) and would like to allow my coworkers to access it, but when I attempt to open the web page from a remote system, I get this error in the web browser:

The page cannot be displayed

I am using this for the url :
http://ipaddress:8000
where ipaddress is the address of the linux box.

Splunk works fine from the linux box itself using ip or localhost.
I am able to ping the ip of the linux box from remote systems.

Is this a limitation of the free version or do I need to change a configuration to allow remote systems to bring up the Splunk page on the linux box ?

Sounds like a client-side firewall - try connecting after you do the following:

service iptables stop

Even if the client is running Windows XP?

I think you misunderstood my point - I think the linux server is running a firewall.

Ahh! Yes. I issued that command on the linux server running splunk and that solved it. I'll take a closer look at the iptables configuration so I can keep it active and still allow access to that port.

Thank you.
