I've been upgrading all our splunk forwarder installs to 3.3 to largely prevent it from crashing.

Windows 2003 sp2 on HP DL360 Hardware.

I keep seeing these reports in the event logs

1215874433
Category=100
CategoryString=none
EventCode=1004
EventType=4
Type=Information
Message=Reporting queued error: faulting application splunkd.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.762, fault address 0x000046b4.

I previously saw splunk (3.2.3 35555) crash on the previous version, hence my upgrade to 3.3

Any thoughts?

Not much to go on there. I think I saw that you opened a support case - if not, please feel free to do so.
