Forums: SplunkAdministration: Is it possible to **NOT** have a passwd on login for a generic account?

I have a client that currently has a grep/awk tool for looking up LAN WAN data and also searching ACL's to see if any requests failed. They would like to move to Splunk but don't want to be challenged for a passwd on login.
Is this possible? Can't find anything in Forums or the Docs.

I know. I know. This is not optimal but I need to let the client know. This is not a show stopper but if there is a way, using passwd file, then I would like to hear it. Leaving the passwd field blank does'nt work, either does removing the passwd CLI.

Paul

Paul,

I don't think there is a way to do this without scripting your own auth (or using the free version of Splunk):
