Hi

I've installed splunk on Windows Server 2003 and everything works straight after install. When I go back to the server at any later time and click splunk in the start menu, nothing happens.

I've restarted the server but get the same nothing result.

Have reinstalled but get the same problem a day or two after install.

Any ideas?

James

So are you saying the splunkd.exe service is not starting? Are there any errors in the event log or splunkd.log?

splunkd.exe starts fine and there aren't any errors in the logs.

Clicking splunk in the start menu just starts the service. If you want the webgui you need to open a web browser and go to localhost:8000
As a side note, the first time I installed splunk on my server 2003 it did not install the webservice and the web browser did not launch on the initial install. I uninstalled and re-installed then everything worked great.

Thanks ASW3382 - I had a feeling that was his resolution, but I wasn't sure given that the installer will open a browser by default at the end of installation.

The installer should have opened a browser, if it didn't I would guess that the installation had issues. I have the Enhanced security turned off on my servers as well, perhaps that is causing content to be blocked.

Thanks people, I found the problem with your assistance.

I had the misconception that the start menu shortcut would open a browser.

The next logical step was to open a browser and try the URL 'localhost:8000' which didn't work either.

Turns out I need the 'http://' in front of that and it works fine.

Thanks again.

James

Turns out I need the 'http:' in front of that and it works fine.//

Bah you IE users ;)
j/k Glad I could be of assistance.
