Splunk for Windows Application Delivers First Complete Picture of IT Data to Windows Environments

Built on the Splunk IT Search Platform, Splunk for Windows Brings Powerful Indexing, Search, Alerting and Reporting to the Challenge of Managing Windows.

SAN FRANCISCO – April 29, 2008 – Splunk, the IT Search company, today announced Splunk for Windows, an application that integrates Microsoft’s System Center Operations Manager’s command-and-control view of a Windows infrastructure with Splunk’s IT Search. Splunk indexes all IT data generated by Windows servers and applications — event logs, registry keys, performance metrics and application log files. All the data is searchable from a single place to resolve service-impacting incidents faster, enhance monitoring coverage, and validate service levels. Freely downloadable from www.splunkbase.com, Splunk for Windows provides workflow integration with Microsoft’s System Center Operations Manager 2007, and predefined alerts and reports to achieve rapid time-to-value for a Splunk deployment in Windows environments.

Splunk searches can be launched through Tasks in the System Center Operations Manager Console on any aspect of the infrastructure being monitored, and can be expanded to include far-flung elements of the IT infrastructure for additional context – regardless of platform or technology. Now Splunk users can quickly and easily identify information across the Windows Event Log, the Windows Registry, and application log files from every server in the environment to troubleshoot difficult problems without struggling to maintain historical data.

Reports and dashboards included in the Splunk for Windows application provide a birds-eye view of service levels and problems across large numbers of Windows servers and applications. The predefined alerts leverage the full view of all of the IT data to warn of cross-component problems, Alerts are sent via email or RSS, or forwarded to the System Center Operations Manager console.

"Splunk is an entirely platform-agnostic high-speed indexing technology," said Mark Bagley, Senior Product Manager for Enterprise, Splunk. "Splunk for Windows delivers a high-fidelity IT data solution for Windows unlike anything previously available, breaking through silos and identifying root cause almost immediately."

Splunk for Windows follows the successful launch of the Splunk Platform and Splunk 3.2, which makes possible the development of integrated operations, security and compliance applications using a single, common data collection. Splunk 3.2 introduced support to natively run Splunk indexing and search on Windows.
