Splunk app framework

App builder

Splunk adds command-line and user interface controls for app creation and app management. Through user actions in either mode, a user can can create a template for an app. The create operation stubs out a directory users can then add Splunk objects, as well as enable, disable, install or delete the app. The user can also package the application for potential enterprise deployment via the deployment server. Packaging also enables simplified app version management.

New capabilities:

  • Automated creation of a app directory
  • Install, delete, enable, disable the app from the CLI or the UI
  • Package the app for deployment or for app management
  • Ability to add custom http endpoints

App-centric install

Splunk's new, extensible interface allows applications to create their own custom Splunk environment. The app-centric install allows apps to have their own install views to prompt the administrator to configure them so they can be immediately useful.

Benefits

App creation, management and deployment are easier and more manageable through Splunk Manager. Create, develop and update apps through a single UI. Administrators simplify app deployment across the enterprise by deploying a packaged application via the deployment server. In addition, apps can be now installed directly and all prerequisites met with new installation user experiences.
