The roles scrum handles flexible roles and role-based access controls. You can use roles to restrict access to Splunk's data and features based on legal, corporate, or other requirements. Roles in Splunk Preview combine the search-based filters of granular access controls with a new flexible roles system.
During the course of Preview's development, the developers working on these features will be blogging about their work. Check the following blog for tips, tricks, and additional information:
Ben Strawbridge and Rory Greene.
You no longer have to use Splunk's default roles of Admin, Power or User. While these roles remain built into Splunk, you can now define your own roles out of a list of capabilities. You can create flexible roles for Splunk users via Documentation:preview:AuthorizeConf:latest.

You can also add capabilities to your system. This is mostly useful if you have added a new script to $SPLUNK_HOME/bin/ and you want to be able to call it from within SplunkWeb.
