Splunk for Green Datacenter
The old way: Green initiatives blocked by IT data barriers.
Forward-looking IT organizations are increasingly concerned with controlling costs and minimizing the environmental impact of their datacenters. Yet the data they need to identify and correct hot spots is scattered and hard to analyze. Performance metrics are locked in traditional server monitoring systems. Power and temperature data live in their own silos that lack effective interfaces for search and reporting. There's no easy way to correlate data based on physical location in the datacenter.
The new way: Visibility across temperature, power and utilization.
Splunk universally indexes all IT data from temperature and power utilization statistics to operating system and server metrics. Knowledge about server locations can be added as tags on-the-fly. Simple yet powerful searches let you correlate physical server utilization with power consumption and temperature within different parts of the datacenter so that you can identify and address inefficiencies. Searches can be scheduled and alert based on thresholds to proactively monitor for new cooling and consumption problems. Graphical reports can be saved and added to dashboards to facilitate ongoing management.
