Splunk Named Gartner "Cool Vendor in IT Operations"

Vendors selected for the "Cool Vendor" report are innovative, impactful and intriguing

San Francisco – March 14, 2006 – Splunk (www.splunk.com), creators of the first search software for fast moving IT data, is excited to announce that it has been named one of Gartner’s "Cool Vendors in IT Operations Management" in a March 9, 2006 report released by Gartner, Inc. Written by Cameron Haight, et al, the report, "Cool Vendors in IT Operations Management, 2006," selected companies representing unique and interesting offerings in the IT operations management marketplace.

The Gartner report states: "Most of today's IT operations management industry is focused on using structured data and metadata to describe infrastructure component relationships for the purpose of improving functions such as root cause analysis." It goes on to say, "Operations specialists, administrators and application support teams can use this tool to offload developers from having to become involved in problem determination exercises."

"Splunk is honored to be selected by Gartner as a 'cool vendor' in IT operations management," said Michael Baum, Splunk’s chief executive splunker. "Splunk's mission is to make IT data more accessible, understandable and useful to the folks that need it. While IT infrastructure has changed, the current methods of managing and troubleshooting haven't. Splunk delivers a new way of dealing with massive amounts of IT data. We feel this recognition confirms what we already believe--that IT data is an asset, not a liability."

Gartner's "cool vendor" list is the latest recognition Splunk has received since its launch last year. Splunk was named "One to Watch" by the Open Source Business Conference last month and recently received $ 10 million in funding. Splunk’s software has been downloaded by more than 30,000 IT professionals since its introduction in August 2005.

Splunk makes it faster, easier and cheaper to troubleshoot applications, systems and underlying IT infrastructure in real-time. It is the only solution to leverage the simplicity and speed of search technology for troubleshooting IT systems. By making the vast amount of fast-moving IT data searchable, Splunk helps administrators troubleshoot problems faster, improve service quality, and reduce the cost of incident response.

About Gartner's Cool Vendors Selection Process
Gartner's listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.

Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn't do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner's interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.
